SCET provides a generic social work service on an emergency basis out of hours. Sources of referral include: - Police, Housing Authorities, Voluntary Organizations, other Local Authorities, members of Community Services and members of the public, whether already in receipt of a Social Work Service or not.

Service priorities include child and adult protection, statutory mental health assessment and family and care breakdown. SCET also manages the West Lothian Dom Care Service out of hours and provides the Appropriate Adult Service out of hours

There are three emergency care workers positions and a secondment opportunity has arisen to cover one of these, initially to 31 st December 2017.The post involves shift working across evening and weekends - attracting a 30% unsocial hours shift allowance.

Purpose of Job
  • To assist in the provision of an emergency out-of-hours social work service in West Lothian, through undertaking duties as directed by the duty manager and with their support and oversight.
  • To undertake care and assistance tasks across the range of client groups arising from assessments of emergency need undertaken by Social Care Emergency Team social work practitioners.
  • To provide support in a crisis and to participate in the assessment of any person in need who is resident in West Lothian and who would otherwise face emergency admission to hospital or care, or who is being discharged from hospital or care, where their ability to cope independently is uncertain.
  • To provide for the care and support of the above client groups.
  • To assist with care planning and have responsibility for meeting assessed needs.

Required Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge
  • HNC in Social Care/SVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council.

This position requires registration with the SSSC. The successful candidate will have six months from commencement in this post to register with the SSSC
