The Company

My client are very well established in offering comprehensive marine and non-marine fire and explosion investigation services, both in the UK and overseas. With their own accredited laboratory facilities they analyse materials and identify fire debris from cause and origin through to development and spread. Using both mathematical and physical models to create three dimensional computer images of fire scenes to test predicted ignition sources and fire growth.

The Role

To investigate the causes or likely causes of incidents such as fires, electrical failures and accidents and provide prompt and accurate advice to the client to assist in determining liability. Complexity of incidents will range from Electrical, Mechanical and Chemical problems.

You will be required to provide a rapid response to an instruction, attending the scene within 24 hours of the event if required. A preliminary report will be required in the first instance setting out the most probable cause and a proposed strategy for further investigation. When needed, a full and detailed scientific investigation will then be carried out in order to formulate a clear and impartial report.

Although based from one of their UK offices, you will be required to spend a portion of your time (around 20%) abroad as the territory covered in this role is anywhere from North USA to the Middle East.

Key Responsibilities of the role (including, but not limited to;)

- Accurately gather evidence and record correctly (witness, electronic and documentary)
- Practical, hands on debis recording and excavation including sampling, testing and laboratory based investigative analysis.
- Carry out and amend risk assessments as appropriate
- Communicate with clients regularly
- Devise and carry out testing of components and materials
- Review technical information
- Prepare reports for Court proceedings
- Provide Expert Witness evidence in Court

Ideally you will;

- Have a minimum of 5 years experience in a relatable field
- Be flexible to travel worldwide at short notice
- Have attained a good honours degree within a suitable science field
- As a minimum, be working towards a Chartered status in a specific discipline
- A higher degree by study or research (eg MSc or PhD) in a relatable field
- Be able to complete a day's site work including some physical exertion
- Have the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly, both verbally and in writing, to others less informed than yourself
- Be prepared to work unpredictable hours, as and where the work demands
- Be physically fit and prepared to undergo BOSIET training
