We are looking for a Digital Development Manager who will be responsible for helping the university improve its web
and digital presence through the technical development and design of the website and relevant social media channels, as well as through analysis of site and channel performance
and user behaviour. 

The role is responsible for ensuring a high standard of coding and design is maintained to
improve accessibility, search engine optimisation and the user experience. 

Main activities and responsibilities

1. To work with the Senior Digital Marketing Manager to ensure the website conforms to
security, web and legal standards 
2. Develop, maintain and update the university’s web services using, but not limited to, 
3. Provide web development consultancy, working with the Senior Digital Marketing
Manager and colleagues across the University to understand business requirements and
ensure that the web presence and web based systems provided are responsive to these
4. Support the Senior Digital Marketing Manager in the analysis of third party systems and
the production of functional specification and technical requirements documentation 
5. Play a leading role in improving the design and functionality of web-based services in
line with the strategic direction defined by Senior Digital Marketing Manager, ensuring
content, web templates and information architecture are optimised for users and search
6. To proactively identify, analyse and rectify any problems with web services, ensuring
that they function effectively and efficiently 
7. Maintain high awareness of industry best practice and trends, particularly in regards to
accessibility, usability, emerging technologies, analytics and Squiz Matrix 
8. Play a leading role in developing and implementing web analytics code to enable tracking of online properties to maximise the effectiveness of digital marketing campaigns, content, information architecture, web applications, and social media integration.

9. Consult with business owners to ensure relevant traffic and key performance metrics are 
captured in order to provide actionable insights. 

10. Create, manage and distribute data and actionable insights via regular and ad-hoc
reporting including statistical calculations, graphical representation and written analysis. 
11. Support the Senior Digital Marketing Manager with the management of Squiz Matrix
CMS, Google Analytics and other key platforms at administrator level. 
12. Work with external developers to support services supplied by external vendors and
integration with third party systems 
13. Testing for code validation, performance and browser compatibility

Selection Criteria


a) A good first degree or recognised equivalent (essential) 
b) Digital marketing certificate or diploma (desirable)

Experience / Knowledge 
c) Extensive experience of designing and developing accessible web services using, but
not limited to, XHTML/HTML, XML, JavaScript, PHP, MySQL and CSS working with
brand guidelines 
d) Excellent verbal and written communication skills – including experience of writing
reports and optimising content for the web 
e) Experience of validating code against web and legal standards
f) Experience of developing within Content Management Systems (CMS) and Customer 
Relationship Management (CRM) environments
g) Knowledge of current and emerging technologies and toolsets for the creation of 
dynamic web-based services
h) Experience of integrating and optimising social media channels to support marketing 
and communications activities
i) Experience of implementing and managing cross-domain tracking through analytics 
platforms, particularly Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager
j) Strong web analytics and reporting skills – ability to analyse and report effectively on traffic sources and patterns to provide insights and improve site and campaign performance 
k) Familiarity with Higher Education and/or understanding of issues surrounding Higher Education from a customer perspective 
l) Strong project management skills – ability to manage simultaneous projects, complex relations, multiple deadlines and a number of stakeholders 
m) Team player - able to work collaboratively with others, build strong working relationships, and disseminate and share knowledge and information 
n) The ability to use initiative, prioritise, meet deadlines and maintain a high degree of accuracy 
o) The flexibility to work across a variety of functions, and willingness to contribute to
other areas within the team 
p) Able to demonstrate an understanding of the impact of equality and diversity in the
Marketing and Communications Department.
