An IT Systems Administrator with experience in managing IT requirements and activities in a predominantly Linux based environment, is required for a permanent employment opportunity with a leading electronics design consultancy based in the Southampton area.

The role is offering a salary up to £50,000 per annum based on years of relevant industry experience.

With strong expertise in electronic engineering, software development and systems engineering they provide a complete design solution to businesses in a range of industries including Broadcast, Video Processing, Medical Technology and Automotive. Key Responsibilities

  • Liaising with IT stakeholders, including clients, to identify IT requirements
  • Ensuring that the IT infrastructure meets the needs of the business and that the best technology choices are made
  • Overseeing continuous improvement of IT processes
  • Managing the full project lifecycle, from the identification of IT requirements through to IT delivery
  • Maintaining an in-depth technical understanding of our IT systems through hands-on IT implementation and review
  • Managing 3rd party IT services such as web domain providers, DNS management, internet, email and VOIP
  • Covering IT during staff sickness, holidays, and providing out of hours critical support (24/7)
  • Developing software for internal and external projects

Skills / Experience Required


  • Degree qualified in an IT, Information Technology, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Computer Science or similar discipline from a leading university
  • Full experience of Linux based system administration
  • Expertise in disaster recovery, back-ups & security management
  • Previous leadership experience in an IT department
  • Exposure to the Agile development methodology : e.g. Scrum, Kanban, DevOps ...
  • Revision control systems: e.g. Git, Subversion
  • Network administration & virtual machine infrastructure management
  • Programming with scripting languages: e.g. Python, Perl
