The Role – Instrumentation Control Systems Maintenance & Calibration Engineer

Following expansion at one of their flagship manufacturing sites in Buckinghamshire, this global brand now seeks to recruit a Instrumentation & Control Systems Calibration Engineer,responsible for a number of key quality maintenance and calibration control functions in the manufacturing of specialist pharmaceuticals.

The Calibration Engineer will take responsibility for the daily work load of all calibration tasks using the sites CMMS system to plan and execute critical tasks, undertaking hands on calibration of equipment and processes. The calibration engineer will also take responsibility for the calibration database, providing technical expertise in the calibration of new instruments, managing the sites Master Calibration Reference equipment, ensuring standards are kept within calibration tolerances/dates.

The Calibration Engineer will have a demonstrable commitment to excellence in the Calibration management and improvement, and will be expected to support the sites critical calibration schedule with occasional weekend and late evening support, depending on plant availability and scheduling of maintenance tasks. Supporting the Process on call system, assisting the site Duty Engineers out of hours. The Calibration Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager.

Full responsibilities include:

• Calibration of site instrumentation and process loops

• Weekend/evening support for autoclave calibrations

• Completion of work orders and Calibration Certificates in line with Engineering Operating Procedures

• Daily CMMS work order management.

• Responsibility for the Calibration Database

• Management of the Calibration Standards.

• Simplification and Innovation of Site Calibration Systems

• Project liaison sharing technical knowledge/experience.

• C&I design capabilities

• Breakdown recovery for critical systems on site

• PLC and Control systems interaction for Commissioning and Maintenance.

• Demonstrable fault finding skills

• Pneumatic systems experience

• On-Call Process Support for Duty Engineer

Your Background – Instrumentation Control Systems Maintenance & Calibration Engineer


• Recognized Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent

• Experience as time served Calibration Technician.

• Recognized Engineering qualification relevant to Electrical Control & Instrumentation.

• Experience of commissioning and maintenance of complex plant and equipment

• Able to read and understand engineering drawings

• IT literate (MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel,)

Desired Characteristics

• Working knowledge of Pharmaceutical Environments (GMP)

• HNC / HND or equivalent in a relevant discipline

• ISO accreditation as Calibration Technician (Pressure / Temperature / Electrical)

• UKAS accreditation as Calibration Technician (Pressure / Temperature / Electrical)

• Experience of Improvement Projects (lean / simplification).
