Role Overview Based at one of our client offices in Manchester, as an infrastructure engineer you will be working as part of a dedicated team providing proactive systems support, system and service installation. We are looking for an individual with a strong IT support background who is looking to take their next step. The role requires an excellent team worker, who is proven to be flexible, organized and is self-motivated.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS)

  • Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including upgrades, patches, hot fixes and security configurations.

  • Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability, escalating any issues where required.

  • Carry out project tasks to ensure the viability of the project

  • Provide 2nd line support and troubleshooting to resolve issues within agreed SLAs.

  • Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure

  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.

  • Provide on call support on a 1 in 4 rota for a 24/7 network operation.

Essential Skills Experience and Knowledge

  • Minimum 2 years’ IT Support experience.

  • Good basic knowledge of networking, routing and switching.

  • Infrastructure skills covering administration, fault finding/diagnosis and fix.

  • Documentation Skills, with the ability to produce documents for use by an end User, as well as operational procedure documentation for use by peer engineers.

Desirable Skills & Qualities

  • Experience working with firewalls, Netscaler, VPN, Websense, Cisco, MPLS

  • Knowledge of cloud technologies & implementations

  • Awareness of ITIL processes
