About us

We are the UK’s nursing and midwifery regulator. We exist to protect the health and wellbeing of the public by setting standards for education, maintaining a register of nurses and midwives and investigating individuals whose fitness to practise is called into question.

About the role

You will have responsibility and be accountable for making high volumes of critically important and legally binding decisions at the investigation stage for the Nursing and Midwifery Council to ascertain whether there is a 'case to answer’ for a given fitness to practise allegation made against a registered nurse or midwife. You will also give consideration as to an appropriate alternative disposal of the case by way of recommending undertakings, issuing a warning or advice. You will work in partnership with a Professional Case Examiner and will make careful and unbiased decisions in the context of protecting the public and maintaining public confidence in the nursing and midwifery professions. You will play a key role in the NMC’s Fitness to Practise function, will have significant individual responsibility and will be held accountable for your decisions by both the NMC, and the wider regulatory system.

About you

Educated to degree level you will be able to demonstrate evidence of working within a senior managerial role where you had accountability for making decisions. You will have prior experience in an adjudications role, particularly in a quasi-judicial environment, or in a regulatory context. You will have a demonstrable track record of making tough, evidence-based and fair decisions, in a regulatory or employment environment.
