West Lothian Council are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Building Surveyors to provide a comprehensive, cost effective professional Building Surveying service on a variety of major and minor building, civil engineering and maintenance contracts.

The key duties of this post are:
  • To assist in the delivery of the Council's capital and revenue programmes
  • Possessing full membership of the RICS the post holder will carry out the full range of Building Surveying duties relating to repair, maintenance, improvement and the extension of the Councils property including building defect diagnosis, project design development, project management/contract administration, preparation of tender documents, supervision of members of the design team and site supervision for a wide range of projects.
  • Advise Clients on schemes and projects and determining Client requirements.
  • The post holder will be required to supervise and train junior members of staff in the performance of their duties on specific projects and related general office duties. The duties will also include the supervision and/or mentoring roles of any APC candidates.
  • Advising on Procurement routes and preparing Tender documents and advising on the selection and appointing of Contractors, Designers and Consultants.

The skills and experience you must have:
  • Educated to degree level
  • Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors
  • Knowledge and working experience of JCT SBCC Suite of Contracts
  • Microsoft Office 2007 Excel & Word packages.
  • Conversant with a wide range of construction, property and contract legislation.
  • The ability to work with minimum of supervision.
  • Demonstrate an ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing
