Multiskilled Mechanical Fitter

£36'000 Plus Overtime and excellent benefits

Main Purpose for the Multiskilled Mechanical Fitter

This versatile role encompasses the repair, maintenance, manufacture and installation of Mechanical and Electrical equipment across the site.


Main Duties for the Day Multiskilled Mechanical Fitter

Maintain and improve the safe working environment and assist with creation and review of Safe Operating Procedures and Risk Assessments. To support initiatives, campaigns and activities that form the site Health and Safety action Plan.

Attending breakdowns and carrying out emergency repairs swiftly, using fault finding techniques effectively during these periods to ensure minimum plant downtime.

To carry out maintenance of the mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical equipment within the site.

To carry out the Mechanical manufacture, assembly and fabrication duties to a high engineering standard.

Ensure that the maintenance workshop is kept a clean, tidy and hazard free. Likewise ensuring all on the job waste is tidied before handing back the equipment.

Completion of maintenance documents used for recording maintenance activities and use of parts.

Assisting with production duties when required.

Seek to reduce waste in all processes and ensure that all activities contribute to achieving the lowest possible cost of manufacture.


Ideal knowledge

A good general understanding of manufacturing processes and procedures.

A strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles achieved by a time served apprenticeship or post school qualification.

An understanding of function and design of Hydraulic components.

An understanding of function and design of Pneumatic components.


Person spec for the Multiskilled Mechanical Fitter

Ability to work under pressure, both in a team environment and when working alone.

Ability to prioritise and organise.

Ability to communicate effectively within the scope of the role.

Able to read and understand engineering drawings, and Hydraulic, Pneumatic and Electrical circuit diagrams.

Able to carry out welding and fabrication processes using MIG, MMA and gas cutting equipment.

Able to effectively use powered and hand tools; and conventional machine tools such as lathes and milling machines.

Able to fault find within systems, using a practical and logical approach to identify and resolve any issues.

Qualifications for the Multiskilled Mechanical Fitter

Time served Engineer to a minimum NVQ 3 standard or suitable equivalent.

Two years experience as Multiskilled Engineer in a high volume manufacturing environment.
