Clinical Negligence Solicitor

Main Objective:

To work within the Clinical Negligence team and assist in the delivery of legal services to our clients.

Skills & Attributes:

- Solicitor / FILEX (or equivalent) ideally 4 years PQE (or equivalent)

- Legal experience clinical negligence is essential

- Enthusiastic and dedicated towards business development

- Ability to carry out legal research

- Knowledge of law and legal principles relevant to the work conducted by the team

- Ability to carry out legal research

- Good planning and prioritisation, highly organised

- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines

- Commerciality

- Flexible approach to fulfilling client requirements including the need to work beyond contractual hours where deemed necessary

Duties Include:

To assist in the following areas:

  • Manage Case Load - initially under the supervision of Fee Earners
  • Conduct meetings and interviews with clients
  • Assess legal issues and advise accordingly
  • Advise on costs (including the preparation of Letters of Engagement)
  • Conduct legal research
  • Draft documents and letters, and prepare and submit searches
  • Meet deadlines (utilisation of electronic diary system)
  • Complete time sheets
  • Maintain files
  • Deal with financial aspects
  • Adhere to the Firm’s administrative system and procedures
  • Participate in team meetings
  • Attend internal and external courses as required
  • Keep up to date with law and practice
  • If required, assist Partners within the Clinical Negligence Team based in other offices
  • Attend internal and external courses as required
  • To fulfill budgeted level of matter time and fees
  • To assist in the development of long-term client relationships
  • To maintain effective file management (in order to meet the firm’s, money laundering and SRA requirements)
  • Attend business development activities on behalf of the Clinical Negligence Team (as required), on behalf of the firm
  • To promote the firm with all external clients
  • To ensure all files are opened in the correct manner and take responsibility for ensuring all regulatory obligations are completed, included but not limited to, AML and due diligence requirements
  • Aware of AML and report to the risk department any concerns
  • To carry out any reasonable duties as may be directed by the Partners or the management of the firm
  • To complete the annual risk refresher training.

The hours for this position is 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday
