The STFC Estates and Facilities Management department is responsible for the development of our three principal campuses; the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire, the Daresbury Laboratory in Cheshire and The Royal Observatory, Edinburgh, housing science and technology facilities, workshops and laboratories.
About The Role
We now have an exciting new opportunity for two Building Project Surveyors to join the Estates Team based at our Harwell Campus.
You will be responsible for the successful delivery of assigned minor works to programme and within allocated budget. You will have some supervisory responsibilities for major projects and building maintenance.
Management of an externally appointed professional team and contractors are also required within the role. You will engage and consult with stakeholders and connected third parties regarding Minor Projects and Measured Term Contracts, including the capture and interpretation of requirements and preparation of Valued Engineered specifications, with the aid of other specialists.
The primary duties will include:
• initial and on-going liaison with the client to advise, interpret and define project requirements, scope and budget prior to works instruction
• instructing, implementing and managing projects using NEC3 TSC and NEC3 ECC processes and protocols
• procurement and supervision of contractors with minimal impact to the site location, including works coordination, integration, Safety and Quality assurance
• assist the Quantity Surveyor through the supply of robust cost management information for assigned projects, including the valuation and reconciliation of Measured Term Contracts
• project management of various projects incorporating all building disciplines, with assistance for other specialist trades
• available for Call-Outs and weekend working when required.
Formal building qualifications are essential for this role. You must have extensive experience and knowledge of the Construction Industry. Experience in the supervision of Contractors is essential as well as experience dealing with customers on a regular basis.
You must be an experienced operator of Microsoft Office and have a detailed knowledge of current legislation. You will also have experience of CDM, Quality Systems and Safety.
You will be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently.
It will be beneficial if you have experience and practical application of NEC3 TSC and NEC3 ECC as well as cost management and AutoCAD experience.
The role will require limited travel and may involve occasional overnight stays. It is desirable that you are able to drive and are available for overnight visits when required.
