3rd Line / Network Engineer - Chorley - £25k - £30k

Background

Our core business is to deliver next-generation internet access to rural communities and businesses using fibre-rich microwave technology. We currently cover around half of Lancashire and Yorkshire and plan to expand in the next two years.

We operate an extensive and growing core network with our Network Operations Centre based in Chorley. We are seeking a reliable and enthusiastic 3rd line network engineer to help with the smooth operation of our network and 3rd line customer support escalations.

Primarily, working knowledge of ISP networks with appropriate skills in IP, OSPF, BGP and MPLS are required. Similarly the role also requires knowledge of support platforms, including network monitoring and management.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Day to day network operations and engineering, installations and outage handling
  • 3rd line customer support
  • Assist in network architecture design and planning
  • Network capacity planning and management
  • Develop and implement an enhanced network security model
  • Highlight any major performance, operational or security issues that may affect the smooth operation of the network
  • Implement and refine system monitoring tools to continually monitor network performance and availability
  • Maintaining RIPE database entries
  • Participation in the on-call rota as required

Desirable Skills

  • Experience as Network Engineer in a carrier, service provider or enterprise network environment
  • Experience with Carrier Ethernet
  • Experience with interior and exterior routing protocols including OSPF and BGP
  • Experience with a wide range of protocols including IP and MPLS (including L2VPN and L3VPN)
  • Experience with Juniper routers and switches or CCNA/CCNP
  • Experience with Linux/UNIX/BSD system administration, tools and scripting
  • Experience with customer support and service
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Well organised with the ability to work autonomously and manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
