Our client is currently looking to employ an Engineering Supervisor to join their team on a permanent basis on days due to their current employee retiring later this year. The Grimsby based factory processes fish trimmings to produce fishmeal and fish oil, and employs 25 people.

We are looking for an Engineering Supervisor to lead a small maintenance team.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager you will be a time served, electrically biased, Multi Skilled Engineer with good supervisory skills and hands on knowledge of process industry equipment. You will be adept at electrical and mechanical fault finding and familiar with process control and instrumentation.

Job purpose: Supervise engineering activities and staff to ensure that engineering works are executed in a proficient manner.

Equipment: Screw conveyors, Pumps, Steam Boilers, Gearboxes, Bearings, High Speed Centrifuges, Valves, Instrumentation, Compressed air systems, Rotating machinery, Steam systems, and other process equipment.

Main Duties:

  • Control the engineering task lists including daily maintenance list, planned preventive maintenance list, routine maintenance list.
  • Develop preventive maintenance schedules to ensure maximum reliability of plant and process equipment.
  • Fault finding of Process and Engineering issues.
  • Allocate and supervise engineering tasks to engineering personnel and contractors and ensure that these tasks are executed in a timely and effective manner with due regard to production requirements and priorities.
  • Ensure that all tasks are completed in accordance with relevant standards and practices.
  • Ensure that all works are tested under duty conditions before handing over to production.
  • Ensure that tasks are carried out with due regard to the required Health and Safety standards.
  • Comply with and support the management of the HACCP plan and feed safety standards in raw material, intermediate and final products.
  • Keep engineering records up-to-date with work history and any other relevant supporting engineering documentation.
  • Promote a "can-do" culture within the engineering department.
  • Demonstrate competitive purchase of engineering services, parts and consumables.
  • Ensure that sufficient engineering spares are held in stock to support the site. Ensure that they are easily identifiable and engineering staff are familiar with the spares system.
  • Develop and document engineering instructions for all engineering tasks.
  • Identify engineering staff training needs to ensure competent engineering support.
  • Keep management appraised of engineering issues.

  • Some training may be a job requirement or because of changes in legislation.
  • Notify your line manager of any training needs you have in order to do your job to the required standard.

Flexibility:

  • Employees are expected to demonstrate flexibility in the workplace; this may involve working in other areas.
    • An amount of overtime may be required to ensure that maintenance routines are completed in time for production runs.
