We are a specialist technical marketing company. We carefully select technology leading European manufacturers and work in partnership with them to grow their presence. Focus markets are Power Transmission & Distribution, and Rail Electrification. Thanks to these strong partnerships and a high level of engagement with senior personnel, we have grown our business by a factor of 5 since 2012. With 6 major partners and 2 growing markets, we look set to continue our growth. As a result, we are looking for a sales engineer to support and work with the Rail Business Development Director. With a view to developing our market coverage, this will mean growing sales in our existing client base for new products and opening new clients. We promote our partners’ products through a small team of professionals who take a technical view and look to be viewed as industry partners. We formed in January 2012 and the new role will take us to 10 members of the team

The Rail Electrification Industry

We are focussing on Rail Electrification and the T&D markets both because of our historical knowledge and because both markets have favourable conditions in the medium to long term.

Rail Electrification is experiencing a relative boom in recent years but there have been serious challenges and the increased project schedule has attracted increased competition. As such we find ourselves in market conditions where significant growth can be achieved but competitive position must be continually monitored, both in terms of commercial and technical advantage. We have been very successful in building up our rail business and we now need to look to new products and clients to continue that growth.

In general the electrification industry is a relatively tight community, with people who are generally specialists in their field and committed to doing a good job.

Role Overview

The role will suit someone who is both self-motivated and able to work in close partnership with the team. Breaking new markets in the rail industry takes a good strategy, strong technical knowledge and persistent effort. The successful candidate will be offered significant sales and marketing support and has the advantage of excellent products and factories to show customers.

Gaining product approvals will be a significant factor in making new sales. This normally requires finding a senior contact within a project who sees value in the offering and is prepared to sponsor it through the process. We will be introducing the successful candidate to numerous industry stakeholders but there will be a requirement to grow that base of contacts to gain sales leverage.

The key deliverable of the role will be to creating and executing a sales strategy to achieve new sales. Increasing the contacts for the business will also be a significant target.

We are located in the Cotswolds, around 15 minutes from Cirencester and 20 minutes from Cheltenham, though our work can take us all around the UK and sometimes Europe. There is flexibility in where the successful candidate is located but they will be required to attend the office 2 days per week minimum.


Experience of rail overhead lines would obviously be an advantage for this role but we are happy to give training to someone who would like to move into this area. However experience in either an engineering role or technical sales role is important.

Other factors include IT skills, communication skills and experience in dealing with clients. Language skills could also be of use.
