We have an exciting and great opportunity for a housekeeping shift manager to join one of our largest contracts at Kings Hospital, Brixton. This is a 1300 bed hospital. As the shift manager  you will report into the deputy housekeeping manager and will assist in managing a highly trained and motivated team of cleaners within the hospital environment. You will have the assistance of 18 supervisors who will be reporting to you. The ideal candidate will have experience within a hospital environment and have a good understanding of the present H&S and NHS regulations. The shift manager  must have experience in managing a very large team.

Package description

£25000 to £30000 depending on experience

5 out of 7  days between 6am - 10am

40 hours per week

Main responsibilities
  • Ensuring that a high standard of customer service is a priority, whilst understanding the importance of the efficient use of resources.
  • Responsible for implementing policies and proposals for change in the housekeeping Services.
  • To comply with and be responsible for the application of departmental/Trust policies and procedures in relation to infection control.
  • Ensures that equipment is in good working order and that staff use it correctly.
  • To supervise the day-to-day operation of the Housekeeping Department including responsibility for  first stage disciplinary, appraisals and absence management.
  • Monitors and maintains systems/processes in relation to Housekeeping Services. 
  • Undertakes inspections, surveys or audits to plan.
  • Ensures all information and data is accurate and handled in an appropriate way.
  • Responsible for the control and issue of store items, working in line with targets given.
·Regularly makes suggestions to continuously improve how the work area is cleaned and cleaning product wastage reduced.
  • The post holder will be required to supervise the Housekeeping Department Services staff within agreed policies and procedures and taking direction from their Line Manager.
  • Regularly meet with teams to address issues and improve performance.
  • Provide support to direst reports and the wider team.
  • Deliver frontline training to direst reports
  • Completed any other required on-the- job training requests.
Ideal candidate
  • Be prepared to assist colleagues in a willing and positive manner including assisting with other duties as required
  • Experience in managing a very large team
  • Be prepared to attend all relevant training sessions and meetings
  • Experience in managing a very large team
  • Must have a proven track record in working within the NHS environment
  • Passionate in what you do
  • Be able to work well under pressure
  • Very well organised and have an eye for detail
