Role Overview The Senior Strategic Communications and Marketing Consultant will provide overarching strategic communications and marketing management to all the business lines, with specific day-to-day responsibility for one, working in collaboration with business line directors and their teams plus ops comms colleagues, to co-ordinate a single approach to promoting their work and projects amongst stakeholders to align with corporate positioning, and provide operational communications support to aid delivery. The post holder will work closely with marketing and strategic communication colleagues to support the business lines, and director of marketing and communications to develop and deliver a co-ordinated programme of communication and marketing activities, both on and offline.

The marketing and communications function is a core part of the business and plays a vital role in transforming the future of the NHS. The team covers four main areas: strategic communications, corporate and internal communications, marketing and events, plus media and PR. Digital and social media falls into this area too. Their remit is to help the business to position itself appropriately in the market place to generate new and repeat business. The team supports the business and relevant corporate functions plus the three income generating business lines. This role is primarily a communications role with 25 per cent marketing related. Key Responsibilities

  • Developing an in-depth understanding of the business line/s and their business strategy

  • Shaping a business line communication and activity with the support of marketing, corporate communications and media colleagues

  • Crafting a business line activity and messaging plan to promote their expertise and knowledge therefore positioning them as 'market experts’

  • Co-ordinating business line plans into the corporate communications and marketing plan

  • Managing the day-to-day activity to ensure one single voice of the organisation

  • Supporting implementation of projects and initiatives through advising on best practice communication activities

  • Advising and educating on how best to communicate and market projects and initiatives

  • Developing, implementing and evaluating communication campaigns and activities for the business and business lines both on and offline

  • Managing two strategic operational communication consultants

  • Work with the director of marketing and communications to ensure that the business line activity is coordinated and consistent across NHS Shared Business Services

  • Engage with all stakeholders across the business line to build an in-depth knowledge and understanding to be able to advise in a timely way on activities that will promote the reputation of the department and generate new client enquiries.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Leadership experience from a similar Marketing/Comms environment

  • Marketing & Communications Degree

  • Solid Industry experience is key, ideally from an IT or technology background

  • Strategic and tactical approach to work

  • Creative thinker

  • Senior Stakeholder management experience

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • NHS Experience

  • Theoretical understanding of the role is desirable

  • Health industry experience is desirable
