As Mess Manager (Hotel Services, F&B, Catering/Hospitality) you'll perform and supervise the day to day activities in our Mess.

You will promote and manage functions including planning, menus and costing in conjunction with the catering team - ensuring standards of service are achieved, maintained and developed, and that your team are engaged, motivated and getting the most from their roles.

Our functions range from Family Fun Days and BBQ's, to fine dining/high end Dinners  

This is predominantly a Mondayto Friday job, with occasional weekend/evenings to meet business needs. It’s a great opportunity for someone to support our Armed Forces and improve the quality of their daily life – as the site is not only their workplace but also a home to many of them.

We're delighted to have been awarded the HESITA South contract which is a new contract to Sodexo.  Project HESTIA aims to harmonise the provision of soft FM across the UK defence estate. The project will promote the well being of people within UK defence through the delivery of quality soft FM services that meet individual and defence needs, are adaptable to local circumstances and agile enough to meet the changing needs of the defence community.

Main responsibilities
  • Perform and supervise the day to day activities of the Mess, to the benefit of all members and residents
  • Promote and manage functions including planning, menus and costing in conjunction with the catering team
  • Ensure standards of service detailed in the contract are achieved, maintained and developed
  • Liaise with the key stakeholders (PMC/RSM) and mess committee to develop relationships and promote Sodexo
  • Plan, organise and manage delivery of all services within the Mess operational business area
  • Contribute to the growth of all services in order to meet client and commercial expectations whilst maintaining strict budgetary control within operational business area in line with client and Sodexo expectations
  • Embrace the principles of Collaborative Business Relationships (BS11000), in line with Sodexo’s vision and values
  • Manage all aspects of performance of an assigned group of direct reports

Ideal candidate
  • Proven experience in hospitality sector, including stock management, cash control and customer service
  • Proven track record of leading, managing and developing a team
  • Proven experience of managing client relationships
  • Good numerical and communication skills, must be able to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication
  • Management knowledge of health & safety and food safety
  • Able to work on own initiative within a team environment
  • Able to demonstrate working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Able to demonstrate attention to detail and adherence to standards
  • Able to analyse problems analytically, develop opportunities and implement innovative solutions

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a similar role within the service industry at a comparable level in a company
  • IOSH and CIEH qualifications or equivalent
  • Experience of working within a Military environment
