Intellectual Property Portfolio Manager - Bristol - £45,000

Intellectual Property Portfolio Manager required to join a leading manufacturer based in the Bristol area. The successful IP Portfolio Manager will be responsible for managing the companies patent portfolio as well as managing and monitoring 3rd party patents. As the successful Intellectual Property Portfolio Manager you will have experience working in an in-house IP environment with experience using IP database management tools.

The Package:
Salary - £40,000-£45,000
Working hours - Monday - Thursday 7:30-16:15 Friday (work every other Friday) 7:30-16:00
72 hour fortnight

Key Responsibilities
To support Intellectual Property related activities across all of the companies Technology Function including but not limited to the following:
  • Management of the companies Patent Portfolio (in particular Aerostructures, AM and Special Products).
  • Management and monitoring of 3rd Party Patents: Competitor watches, Technology Mapping, and patent avoidance activities.
  • Support Intellectual Property aspects of entry into new contracts including acquisitions, collaborative projects, development agreements, and partnerships / joint ventures
  • Responsibility of maintaining records on an internal database (Anaqua).
  • Assist in receiving and processing all new invention disclosure forms for geographic area of responsibility; supporting inventors where necessary; checking for completeness and entering into appropriate database; advising upon ancillary ownership questions.
  • Manage IP (Patent) Case Prosecution (patent or design application through to grant/registration) and relationship with external patent attorneys.
  • Liaising with inventors in relation to all prosecution matters where scope of protection may need to be limited or extended.
  • Co-ordinate prosecution of corresponding cases (equivalent proceedings and overlapping opposition proceedings).
  • Assist in developing Procedures and Processes for use throughout division to ensure effective implementation of all Intellectual Property Strategies of the division.
  • Champion 'Export Control' compliance activities within the Aerospace Division.


Essential Experience
  • Knowledge of IP - evidence of knowledge of IP will be reviewed in the interview
  • Experience or qualifications relating to intellectual property rights
  • Engineering or Science background to degree level at least
  • Experience of working in an in-house IP environment
  • Use of IP database management tools
  • Experience in Aerospace advantageous but not essential
  • Understanding of Export Control and regulatory requirements in this area
