Design and Production Manager (1 Year Maternity Cover)

A temporary role, for 1 year, has arisen for a talented, reader-conscious, print-passionate design/production professional to join our London-based production team. You will manage the publication of your own group of these highly-regarded publications (and other important collaterals related to their brand portfolios) - from design-execution through to print. Reporting to the Head of Production and working closely with each Senior Editor, you will own the production process: creating impactful pages; leading picture selection; and ensuring style-guide compliance. The role calls for creativity, control, care and craft.Key duties:Design and production of a portfolio of magazines, supplements and other publications, from manuscript to print-ready formats.Managing and co-ordinating the flat plan for each of your publications with the relevant senior editor.Working with the events team to prepare and produce conference delegate collaterals. Ensuring every publication is in line with house style and produced to schedule.Liaising with editorial departments from all the company's offices in London, New York and Hong Kong.Liaising with printers to ensure that all publications are made ready for press and printed, on time, within budget and to the highest production standards.Liaising with advertising managers to ensure the quality of advertisements are up to the required standards for print and all advertisements are in place.Monitoring and implementing schedules and ensuring good quality control throughout the production process. Co-ordinating the efficient filing and management of production assets [ photographs, logos etc.]Experience / skills requiredMust have >3 years previous experience of hands-on production/design/page layout gained in a busy publishing environment.Strong design and layout skills, a keen eye for typography and a fastidious approach to written language and grammar.Excellent applied knowledge of In-Design, Photoshop and Illustrator on a Mac.Good knowledge and experience of the full commercial print productionExcellent communication and organizational skills and effectiveness in planning and co-ordinating the inputs of others.An ability to work calmly and creatively under pressure in a deadline-driven environment.Always at ease with working with teams and colleagues often separated by geography and time zones.
