At the Co-op Food we believe in putting our customers, colleagues and communities at the heart of everything we do. We inspire our teams to share their ideas to help us improve the way we work in our state-of-the-art depots. And Birtley really is an impressive operation. Standing at 271,000 square foot and serving 239 stores across the north, Birtley plays a big role in keeping our customers happy. To allow us to keep this well-oiled machine running smoothly, we're now looking for a transport support assistant to join our team.

Working in a close knit team, you'll help support and make sure that our deliveries to stores run perfectly. All the way from Leeds, to the Scottish Borders and Cumbria, it'll be your responsibility to set up all the paperwork supporting deliveries- including driver manifests, collection and delivery notes, despatch routes and arranging cover for driver absences. Your input and organisation is pivotal to the deliveries of stock to our stores, so that our customers and members can continue to shop with us and enjoy their experience.

What you'll do:

  • organise and produce paperwork, including collection information, delivery notes, store information and driver manifests
  • confirm despatch routes and making sure the driver can easily navigate their way to store
  • arrange driver cover for absences
  • double check roadwork issues that could prevent delivery
  • co-ordinate vehicles so that they're assigned a docking station and stock can be loaded on time
  • hand over cab keys and paperwork to docking base staff
  • responsible for compliance including licence checks, agency worker regulations and tachograph envelope checks
To get going quickly in this role, we'll look for you to be highly organised and be incrediblely detail orientated. You'll also have a lot to remember, and to make sure that all paperwork is completed on time and fully accurate, we'll ask for you to have previous experience within an administration position. To support you with your responsibilities, you'll need to be comfortable using Microsoft office packages and have a really positive attitude. To understand our business and the regulations within transport, you might have experience working within a logistics operation already, but this isn't essential.

We'd love to talk to you if:

  • you've got strong administration skills
  • you're proficient on Microsoft office, especially office
  • you're very organised
  • you have a passion for work and love to improve
  • you love attention to detail and can easily spot gaps, errors and mistakes
  • you're ideally from a logistics background, but this is only preferable
