Our client is a Global defence giant and the single contractor providing specialist In-Service Support to the Royal Navy's Trident Strategic Weapon. They are urgently seeking a proactive Accounts Assistant to support the Finance Team and deliver multiple deliverables across the accounting and financial control disciplines. Based at Faslane.

Role Synopsis:

A fixed term contract providing maternity cover for 1 year.

Much of this role is in support of financial control within the business and supporting the financial accountant with their work. There will be a lot of engagement with the accounts payable team and managing accounts balance as well as time sheet processing and support for financial audits. Having a project finance background would be useful, but not essential. Having SOX experience would also be useful. Need to have prior good experience in an Accounts Assistant role and be fully or part Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualified.

The position responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

- Support Financial Accountant in the management of the balance sheet items
- Management of AP balances including liaising with the UK Accounts Payable team
- Perform credit control duties to ensure cash is converted timely.
- Perform periodic asset audits as per the Assets Management process.
- Day to day management of cheque book and perform periodic cheque audits as per internal process.
- Support CAAS and Statutory audits including sampling support
- First POC for all timesheet queries and processing.
- Support month end activities including reporting.
- Monthly analysis of payroll and staff related costs.
- Processing manual overtime payments
- Other Adhoc support

Required skills, qualifications and experience

- AAT qualified or part qualified or other similar qualification
- Experience in a similar role
- A sound knowledge of Microsoft office applications is essential, specifically Excel.
- Good communications and interpersonal skills essential.

Desired skills, qualifications and experience

- Experience and understanding of accounting principles.
- Understanding of AP function
- Experience of working in a SOX Compliance environment would be useful
- SAP experience or other ERP systems

Due to MoD requirements, YOU MUST BE EITHER A UK OR US SOLE NATIONAL. Successful candidates will be required to undergo a security clearance check and must have a valid SC clearance before start.
