Linux Administrator / Technical Services Consultant

The Company:
Well established organisation, a market leader in the software development industry, where staff can grow professionally and gain both valued knowledge and experience.

The Job:
Reporting to a team leader in the Technical Services department, the primary purpose of this role is to support ASP Linux estate and to work closely with the Development Team.

Tasks include administrative support of development, test and production environments used for their growing range of products and services. The role includes working closely with the Development, Operations and Product teams to provide resources, applications, technical solutions and services.

Additionally, the role will provide exposure to global data centres, where support for technologies such as HP Enterprise class storage and blade servers, VMware, Oracle database, network security and Puppet will offer challenges and career development.

Prior experience of working in Java development would be advantageous.

Main Duties:
Administration of the companies Linux estate
Working with the Dev Ops group to provide resources, applications and technical solutions
Performing upgrades to operating systems and applications on a regular and scheduled basis
Assisting Development, Operations, Product and Client Services teams in the troubleshooting and deployment of ASP applications
Support of data centre services
Support of VMware, Oracle and Network Security

The Person:
Experience of installing, configuring, tuning and troubleshooting Linux server environments, preferably in a corporate environment
Prior experience of Java development and or working with Java developers would be an advantage
Experience of using Puppet and installation of Java applications would be an advantage
Experience of virtualisation, database management and network security would be an advantage
Ability to work constructively within a team environment
Strong communication skills with an objective of providing first class services to colleagues and customers
The role will include the need to travel to data centre sites periodically and to perform some occasional work out of standard office hours where an additional allowance will be paid

The hours:
Monday to Friday 9am – 5.30pm

The location: Bristol outskirts, free parking
