Our client is a successful industrial services business with a clearly defined specialism and enjoying 20% year-on-year growth. We are looking for a robust, commercial and hands-on Financial Controller, capable of growing into a Finance Director and playing a key role in the continued growth of the business.

Having been set up in the 1980s, the business is family-run and is building a strong board to gear itself up for continued success. This role will play a key part in the management of the business, whilst providing an excellent platform for career progression.

The Role

This appointment, reporting to the Managing Director, will be accountable for the following:

  • Ensuring that the company has the means and resources to deliver the Board's business plan;
  • Production of the monthly board pack to include detailed management accounts and analysis;
  • Provision of commercial intelligence to aid the board in its decision-making;
  • Involvement in the tendering process for new work as well as ongoing interaction with the project management teams;
  • Close control of company financial resources, constantly looking for areas of improvement to both the working capital cycle and the bottom line;
  • The running of the accounts department team;
  • Maintaining good relations with the external stakeholders including banks, auditors, key suppliers and customers.

The candidate's experience

You will have a good working knowledge and can demonstrate experience of the following:

  • An understanding of the issues facing a contracting business and the accompanying accounting conventions;
  • Experience of developing and integrating systems and processes to provide accurate billing, margin and cost information;
  • An ability to challenge established systems and influence key stakeholders in a change process;
  • An ability to influence non financial managers in cost control and cash management;
  • Strong attention to detail & a 'completer-finisher';
  • Preferably a blue-chip and/or a big-4 background with strong skills in process management & implementation;
  • Preferably management experience.
