We have an excellent opportunity for a Nursery Assistant who will report to the Room Leaders and the Nursery Manager. They work within a team to ensure that all children receive high quality care. They ensure all children in their care are kept safe and receive rich and stimulating play experiences which meet their individual needs.

Salary is anything from £17,000, depending on your experience and how you interview.

Core Duties

Caring, Learning and Development

  • To ensure the delivery of learning opportunities in a fun and caring environment.
  • To provide safe and appropriate play opportunities, referencing to the Early Years Foundation Stage.
  • To settle new children into the setting in a sensitive manner and to meet each child’s needs individually throughout their time at the Nursery.
  • To effectively communicate with all parents within the nursery, especially those that belong in your keyworker group and to liaise closely with parents and update them daily on their child’s progress.
  • To observe, support and extend children’s learning, planning appropriately for the children in their care.
  • To care for all children’s individual needs including their physical, emotional and educational needs, especially those of keyworker responsibility.
  • To carry out day-to-day record keeping - cleaning rotas, nappy records, individual daily diary sheets, sleep charts etc.
  • To allow and encourage parental involvement within your room and to initiate close relationships with parents.
  • To be a keyperson, carrying out all related responsibilities to a small group of children, building relationships with the children and their families.
  • To maintain accurate and effective development records on each key child.
  • Health and Safety Duties

  • To share responsibility for the safety and cleanliness of toys and equipment and to report any hazards within the nursery to the Nursery Manager
  • To ensure and operate the highest of standards with safety, security, hygiene and cleanliness within the nursery building especially within own room, sleeping areas, nappy changing areas and food areas
  • Administer first aid as appropriate
  • Be alert to issues of safeguarding and child protection ensuring that the welfare and safety of children is promoted and to report any concerns to the Nursery Manager
  • To participate in the emergency and security procedures of the nursery e.g. fire precautions, door security, including the dropping off and collecting of children.
  • Operational

  • To be punctual and willing to do overtime when required.
  • To be well presented at all times.
  • To attend meeting and training when required.
  • To ensure an equal opportunities framework is applied across the nursery.
  • To work in conjunction with the legislation and the nurseries policies and procedures as outlined in the Operational Plan of the nursery
  • To work within the team and to use initiative
  • To promote the nursery to current parents and potential customers
  • To work with the Nursery Manager and Inspectors during inspections by external bodies (Ofsted, Health and Safety, Environmental Health etc.) and to assist in the implementation of any recommendations.
  • To support and monitor students who are on work placements
  • To support and mentor new staff in the operational demands of the nursery, reinforcing good practice in accordance to policies and procedures
  • Develop and promote parental partnership and involvement within the nursery
  • To undertake any other duties as reasonably requested by line management and to adhere to the nurseries policies and procedures
  • Qualifications and Skills required

  • Qualified Level 3 or more in a relevant subject
  • Good knowledge of Health and Safety
  • Good knowledge of Child Safeguarding
  • Key Experience

  • Experience of working as a Nursery Assistant or in a similar role
