East Midlands Adult Autism Service

This post will support individuals with a range of learning disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), often accompanied by complex needs and challenging behaviour and be provisioned to provide episodes of care to individuals in 4 residential units.

Job Role

The role involves working with a range of individuals to maximise their potential and to enable them to enjoy the best possible quality of life. As a Specialist SLT, you will be independently working directly with individuals to assess communication needs in a range of environments, implement high and low tech AAC systems based on the outcome of assessment and provide functional targets and recommendations to aid day-to-day communicative success. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and support the implementation of the therapeutic approach.

You will respond to referrals and be responsible for ensuring a total communication environment is maintained, audits are completed and the RCSLT 5 good communication standards are utilised. You will attend a weekly MDT referral meeting and have protected time to coordinate diaries, schedule appointments, complete administration tasks and supervision requirements.

You will be part of a companywide SLT service and receive onsite support and supervision from a Highly Specialist SLT. Full induction training is given. You will also learn from some of the most dedicated and inspirational people in our profession and be learning all the time through our on-going mentoring and support.

Candidate Profile

Previous experience of working with individuals with learning disabilities and/or ASD is essential and evidence of specialist skills.
