Day Service Sheffield - 3 days per week

Specialist day services Sheffield provides a positive experience for up to 60 men and women (Aged 16+) with profound and multiple learning disabilities. The facility utilises state of the art equipment designed to optimise sensory experience and heighten relaxation. There is a spacious sensory room, cinema, soft zone and arts and crafts area. A hydrotherapy pool is used as part of individualised programmes which are designed to maximise physical benefits.

Day Services Long Eaton - 2 days per week

Specialist day services Long Eaton provides a positive experience for up to men and women (Aged 16+) with profound and multiple learning disabilities. The facility utilises state of the art equipment designed to optimise sensory experience and heighten relaxation. There is a sensory room, cinema, soft zone and arts and crafts area. A generously proportioned hydrotherapy room is used as part of individualised programmes which are designed to maximise physical benefits.

Job Role

As part of an on-site multi-disciplinary team, the emphasis of SLT input is on inclusion and participation in the units' activity programme, enhancing opportunities for functional communication skills, supporting the individual's expression of choice and developing the total communication environment. Taking a "hands on" approach you will provide quality communication assessments and evidence-based interventions and be responsible for supporting the development of staff understanding of communication needs and approaches within a Learning Disabilities client group. The successful applicant will be working across both services however, could form part of a job share or be made up by two part time roles.

Full induction training is given. You will also be supported by some of the most dedicated and inspirational people in our profession and just like our service users you will be learning all the time through our on-going mentoring network. You will be accountable to the Head of SLT and the onsite service manager. You are expected to contribute towards service development under the direction of the Head of SLT.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist with:

  • Experience in the field of Profound, Multiple and Severe Learning Disabilities,

  • Specialist knowledge of AAC approaches and application of high-tech aids.

  • Evidence of being a strong team player with a genuine desire to help others

  • Good organisational and project management skills

  • Enthusiasm, motivation and passion

  • Proven ability to maintain links with significant others external to the setting

Successful candidates will have to meet the person specification in order to be offered this post and will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
