Private Client Solicitor/Legal Executive (Probate)

Our rapidly growing national business is looking for a full-time Private Client Advisor to join our successful team based in Ipswich. This is a unique opportunity to further your career in Private Client.

Today they operate a multi-disciplinary practice that brings the skills of Solicitors, Accountants, Chartered Tax Advisors and Chartered Financial Planners together under one roof to provide a holistic range of traditional and specialist estate and tax planning solutions to clients nationwide.

Purpose of Role

You will provide first class administration support in the area of Wills, Trusts & Probate. You will be primarily involved in administering estates and trusts. You will be expected to have some client contact which will mainly be via telephone. Knowledge of drafting wills and powers of attorney and Court of Protection matters will also be helpful. You will also:-

  • Ensure the administration of client files and enquiries are dealt with in an efficient and timely manner, including updating the in-house 'Portal’ computer system.

  • Notify and correspond with all relevant organisations in order to liquidate assets and pay off debts and liabilities of the estate.

  • Assist with the preparing and distribution of estate accounts to relevant parties, correctly distributing the residue of the estate to the beneficiaries.

  • Assist with the preparing and distribution of trust accounts to relevant parties and making appointments from trusts to beneficiaries.

  • Prepare and dispatch letters and documents, including chasing the return of documents and corresponding with clients, third parties, the District Probate Registry, OPG, HMRC and the Land Registry.

  • Prepare inheritance tax computations and returns for estates and trusts.

  • Build and maintain client and third party relationships in a professional and ethical manner including communicating with clients in a caring and understanding manner to support them through difficult circumstances and being able to work sensitively with empathy, integrity and honesty to support the provision of proper legal outcomes on behalf of the clients.

  • Provide excellent levels of client care and communication through regular client contact including meeting the reasonable expectations of clients and providing clear and appropriate advice.

  • Convey information to clients (and other parties as necessary) in a clear and simple manner interpreting technical language using plain English in both written and oral communications

  • Apply attention to detail in all work to ensure correct legal advice is provided at all times and accurately follow internal (and external) processes making sure that all relevant codes of conduct are upheld.

  • Manage time autonomously to ensure deadlines and agreed performance/financial targets are achieved

Hours of Work

  • Monday to Friday 09:00hrs - 17:30hrs

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be someone who has a genuine interest in Private Client and experience working in a probate department. You must have the desire to grow your career within Private Client and committed to a personal journey of training and development to achieve role specific legal qualifications.

  • One year PQE or CILEX qualification, preferably with STEP membership.

  • Proven experience in Probate and Trust Administration and Accounts

  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills.

  • Organised with a high degree of attention to detail.

  • A spirit of co-operation and a positive 'can-do’ attitude.

  • Able to work unsupervised and under pressure.

  • A good team player.

  • A professional telephone manner.

  • Good IT skills (Microsoft outlook, excel, word)
