Underwriting Manager "Bridging Finance" £45,000 - £75,000 + Bonus Hours: Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm Location: Central London The Underwriting Manager plans and leads the management of the underwriting team in support of the company's overall strategy and business goals, including delivery and conversion of good quality loans. Working alongside other Underwriting Managers each responsible for managing their own team of underwriting staff. Underwrite complex bridging & development loan applications within company lending criteria and within personal lending mandate. Ensure that regulatory rules and principles are adhered to, in full, throughout the processing of the application. Accurately assess the risk attributed to the application ensuring that the loan is both suitable and fit for purpose. Identify any potential fraudulent activity and escalate any concerns to compliance. Communicate effectively with relevant third parties, building successful working relationships with solicitors and valuers. Have the confidence to approve/reject applications in line with policy and to clearly and positively communicate decisions. Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers alike. Follow and keep up to date with current best market practice. Key Responsibilities ·Successfully assess and underwrite loan applications in line with prevailing credit policy ·Oversee day-to-day Underwriting operations and keep the Head of Underwriting apprised of significant events ·Manage a significant team of underwriters and ensure their professional welfare ·Train and motivate team members to ensure they are progressing and performing in line with their own expectations and those of the company ·Hold regular team meetings and regular one to ones with each team member ·Regularly review own objectives and those of team members ·Undertake formal quarterly staff appraisals ·Personally underwrite larger loan applications ·Create and maintain professional and open relationship with business providers ·Identify incomplete or contradictory information received and successfully resolve risk and/or issue ·Recommend loans to the Head of Underwriting where they fall outside of the lending mandate held ·Do so with clarity and good judgment ·Participate in and contribute to departmental meetings including making suggestions to improve processes or (where applicable) amend policy ·Demonstrate a full understanding of regulation as it affects loans and keep abreast of potential/actual changes ·Assist with special projects that may be appointed ·Represent the company at external functions ·The employee agrees to abide by all financial crime related policies, procedures and reporting obligations applicable to their job Entry ·Minimum 3 years current Bridging underwriting experience to include holding a suitable lending mandate. ·Strong people management experience essential ·Complaints experience preferably in a regulated environment ·Hands-on knowledge of loan processing systems ·Knowledge of regulation as it affects bridging loans and proven ability to implement those principles throughout the underwriting process. ·Excellent communication skills. ·Reasoning ability - problem solving, maturity of judgement. ·Interpersonal skills - positive communication. ·Self management - initiative, flexibility, management of change Exciting opportunity for an experienced Bridging Underwriting Manager to earn a good salary with excellent benefits!
