Location: Wilson Marriage Centre, Colchester and Clacton and Harwich centres.
Type: Temporary contract
Hours: Approximately 5 hours per week
Salary: £8.56 per hour

Interviews are likely to take place on the week commencing 16th July 2018

The Role:

The duties of the post may be changed and/or varied to meet the changing needs of the Service, however the job purpose is to oversee examinations and ensure that exams are conducted fairly and within the set procedures.

Key Accountabilities:
• To ensure that the exam room meets the required standards (ie: centre number and clock clearly visible to all)
• Ensure that all candidates are correctly identified and provided with the correct papers.
• Give instructions to candidates to ensure they are aware of exam conditions to include notifying candidates of the start and ending times of exams, notifying times as appropriate throughout.
• Read erratum notices.
• Open and distribute papers and other authorised materials to candidates.
• Contact relevant Exam Officer where candidates raise a concern or problem with the exam paper.
• Deal with any problems as they arise before, during or after the exam while maintaining the exam conditions until candidates are dismissed from the room.
• Supervise candidates in a quiet and unobtrusive manner distributing additional paper/equipment as required.
• Complete appropriate paperwork e.g. seating plan and attendance register.
• To ensure the room is set up according to regulations, including desks required distance apart, warning and notice posters correctly displayed and desks identified with candidate details.
• Collect completed scripts in attendance register order ensuring they are never left unattended and are safely delivered to the exams officer or alternative secure destination as agreed in advance with exams officer.
• To promote ECC and ACL equal opportunities policies, ensuring they are adhered to at all times.
• To fulfil the legal obligation to ensure own and others’ health and safety.
• To undertake necessary training as determined by Exams Officer

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

• Literacy and numeracy skills at Level 2 (essential)
• Previous invigilation experience (desirable)
• Effective oral and written communication skills (essential)
• Ability to work on own initiative
• Travel throughout the relevant operational area may be a requirement of this role. Therefore a driving licence and car, or access to other effective transport arrangements is desirable.

As part of employment with Essex County Council (ECC) should your role require a DBS check you will be required to register with the DBS update service. The DBS update service ensures all registered DBS certificates are kept up to date and allows authorised parties to view the status of your certificate. Please note that Essex County Council has determined that the off-payroll working rules will apply to this assignment and where a worker elects to provide their services through an intermediary (such as a personal services company) then income tax and primary national insurance contributions will be deducted at source from any payments made to the intermediary (in scope of IR35)
