Job Description

Interview Date: Week Commencing 1 May 2017

Working Pattern: 2 days 15:45-23:00 plus team meeting days once per fortnight 13:15-15:15 and four days off on a rolling rota basis.

The Social Work Service offers two types of help to children and their families in Fife:

Assessment of need and risk: Time with a social worker who may provide information, advice and a planned, assessed analysis of difficult situations in order to improve a child's and/or family's difficulties.

Direct service provision: Care, protection, support and accommodation (including residential houses and family placements with foster carers).

Our highest priority is the protection of children who may be at risk of harm, and the support of families to allow children to remain at home wherever possible. Where this is not in children's best interests, our focus is on providing the best quality of care away from home for children and young people.

Social Work staff work closely with colleagues in other services and agencies in providing an integrated approach that seeks to meet the range of different and complex needs that vulnerable children and their families experience.

Fife Council pays the Scottish Local Government Living Wage Rate to employees earning less than £8.33 per hour. If the hourly rate of pay for the post is less than the Scottish Local Government Living Wage Rate a supplement will be paid.

Requirements

Before confirming appointment, you will be required to obtain PVG Scheme Membership through Disclosure Scotland, in addition to which you will be required to register with the Scottish Social Services Council.

Responsibilities

You will work with young people who are being looked after in small residential houses in the community.

The philosophy of the service is to provide a positive culture where young people can develop and grow as individuals.

You will have previous experience of working with children / young people or other vulnerable groups.

The Individual

It is essential to have an HNC in Social Care/Child Care or equivalent and an SVQ Health and Social Care (Children and Young People) Level 111 or SVQ Promoting independence Level 111 or an HNC Social Care Combined Award with mandatory SVQ modules completed. An expectation that a commitment to complete additional units within allocated timescales will be essential.

You will undertake shifts on a rota basis, including evenings, weekends and night cover and sleep ins, for which appropriate allowances will be paid.

In Fife Council the way we work matters, and you will be responsible for being a role model by displaying and promoting behaviours that are expected of all Council employees:
  • Take ownership
  • Focus on customers
  • Work together
  • Embrace technology & information
  • Deliver results
