An opportunity has arisen to join our Housing team. This post is to actively engage with tenants and residents, that is people living in Council properties and schemes and to ensure they have the opportunity to contribute their views to service delivery, policy development and other issues which affect them. This is to ensure the Council meets its statutory requirements in tenant participation.

This is a varied and challenging role providing support to existing tenant / resident groups, encouraging new groups to form, facilitating focus groups and supporting the residents' panel. The postholder will seek to further develop tenant / resident participation for the Council. They will work in partnership with relevant stakeholders to ensure effective community engagement which will help to inform service planning and delivery.

The post is part-time and there will be a need for the postholder to be flexible and to be prepared to work evenings and weekends on occasion to support the relevant groups.

To be successful, you will have the ability to provide a high level of customer care and be a good, confident communicator who is able to cope with a wide variety of situations.

Tenant participation requires that you have an appreciation of local housing issues affecting the Council housing sector and can demonstrate excellent analytical, written and IT skills.

You will be required to attend training courses within and outwith Orkney. Additionally you should hold the Professional Development Award in Housing Law for Advisors at SCQF Level 7 or be prepared to achieve this during the first intake following appointment. Successful completion will result in salary advancement as outlined above.

You must be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.

This post is subject to membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme in respect of regulated work with adults.
