Overview

A well respected Manufacturing Company who are the UK's leader in their field are looking for a Team Leader to manage a team of 10-12 production members. Eight years ago our client were taken over by a large European company and have seen a lot of positive change, helping them increase production efficiency and bring some real structure to the business.

They are now looking for a Production Team Leader to come into the business and help them strive for eventual perfection. You'll sit under a highly experienced Operations Manager who has been there, seen it and got the T-shirt in the manufacturing industry over the past 25+ years, and has taken the bull by the horns in this company and turned things around, creating a really positive opportunity for a candidate to come in and help assist to continue moving things forwards.

About the Company

This company designs and manufactures their own product range manufactured out of steel and other metal alloys. As the industry leader their products are the better and more innovative and often made completely customised for each client ranging from £20 per product to £40-50k. Their clients range from manufacturing giant to local industry.

About the Role

You will be using your man management and leadership skills to oversee 10 - 15 welders and machinists. Your experience in managing production, planning work and overseeing orders will be very useful. The aim of this position is to improve efficiency and productivity. You will do this by leading, motivating and developing your team members. You will be responsible for ensuring company standards and legal requirements such as workshop tidiness and health safety are adhered to. Targets such as labour efficiency and material wastage will be your responsibility.

The aim is that you'll come from a lean or CI focused production environment, which mirrors your potential manager's background, he wants to implement practical examples of Lean and Ci process and system improvements. Experience in Value Stream Mapping and Visual Management techniques are a keen desire of his so experience and the ability to role these out is a must.

As you get to know your team and your role you will be entirely shop floor based. Once you settle in and understand the process and your job you will undertake some office duties. The aim is that once you understand the process and can start to make subtle changes based on your experience to push the business forwards overall.

What Are We Looking For?

Man management is key to this role and so experience supervising workshop based technicians will ensure you can hit the ground running, desirably this would be from an assembly, or metal fabrication or machining work environment, but if you feel you have similar transferable experience in manufacturing please apply. You will be someone who leads by example, who can influence people to do things their way and who can get people to buy into new ideas. You will be able to support and advise your team, whilst also bringing and implementing your own ideas.

You will be motivated to ensure quality standards are adhered to and you will have a good eye for detail. Strong verbal communication is important to deliver information to your team and your decisive and confident nature will be important too.

You must be computer literate with good excel skills in order to keep track of costs and performance, in the next few months a new system is being rolled out to help with forecasting and order monitoring, which you will be given full training on, but is predominantly excel based. A diligent and safety conscious approach will help to ensure a safe workplace. Problem solving skills combined with a positive attitude will ensure overcome challenges thrown at you.

We are looking for someone to help us continue the improvements we have implemented so far therefore any background in lean or continuous improvement will see you well as was mentioned before.

Pay and Benefits

So, what's on offer? As well as the chance to run and shape your own team within your own workshop, there is a basic salary of £25k- £28k for the ideal candidate, a bonus based on company profits, 23 + 8 days holiday and 3% matched pension.
