M&E SQS / Commercial Manager

Are you looking to work on a major M&E package with values exceeding £100Million?

Do you have experience delivering major PFI projects for the top contracting companies in the North West as MEP Commercial Manager?

Can you manage the following new accountabilities...
  • Review & approval of CMA valuations & adjustments to Notional Cost / Target Cost
  • Review & approval of 80+ MEP Trade Contractor / Supplier valuations & final accounts issued by the MEP Construction Manager
  • Commercial review of MEP related design change / errors & commercial recovery

The role and reporting structure...
The role will be based in the Liverpool / Manchester and report into the Commercial Director.
The Managing QS / Commercial Manager will work closely with the Heads of department and their respective teams including; Operations, Design, Estimating, and Procurement.

This key commercial individual will be responsible for all contractual and commercial operations during the commissioning and handover phase of projects to ensure that these operations are conducted in a manner both commensurate with the optimisation of profitability and in compliance with company and project procedures.

Future project scope...
This client delivers challenging and complex projects for both private and public clients in the Education, Commercial, Residential and Health sectors, working under a variety of procurement routes including Design & Build, PFI and Partnering.

These projects range from £15m - £100m in value (total build value).

Key duties...
- To provide leadership and direction to the commercial teal to deliver the project budgets through the economic use of the Company's i.e. Management, labour, plant and materials to ensure maximum return from all construction operations
- Implement strategies as agreed with the Business Unit Commercial Director.
- Support, and where necessary lead, key negotiations with prospective customers, partners, contractors and sub-contractors
- Take the responsibility in developing, implementing and reviewing effective commercial activity within a Business Area, ensuring that Cash Management is effected
- Provide and maintain Risk Management processes and procedures, including acting as liaison for internal audit activities.
- In conjunction with other colleagues specialists (Group Risk, Legal, Supply Chain, Insurance and HR), ensure that project-wide contractual and insurance issues, including disputes and claims are resolved
- To provide a thorough knowledge of the principles of Scope Definition and the ability to provide leadership and guidance to all commercial and operational staff. Ability to understand gaps/shortfall in scope definition and opportunities for the operational phase.

Suitable applicants...
- Will come from a Regional or preferably national M&E Contractor or a Construction company
- Be operating at Senior QS, Managing QS or Commercial Manager level
- Ideally hold a HND / Degree and be a member of a Professional Body progressing to Chartered Status
- Be commercially and contractually astute and be ready to be stamp your mark and be part of something which you can genuinely make a direct impact on

Salary and package
A basic salary upto £65, 000 is provided, plus car with fuel card or allowance, 26 days annual leave, performance bonus, pension and healthcare plus other flexible benefits.
