Rate can be negotiated and our client has said they may consider higher within reason. This could be longer term or perm opportunities for the right candidate.The Pension Administration team consists of 26 staff. The Head of Pensions Administration will line manage the team leaders.

The core focus of this job is to manage a team and provide professional advice. To deliver services, delegated aspects of budget and to manage practice and performance management within the team. Post holder will report to Members of the Pension Fund Committee as well as senior officers and the Treasurer of the Pension Fund.


Ensure a high performing pensions administration team is in place delivering accurate and timely information to a range of customers;Ensure the team is capable of acting as the chief ‘expert’ in LGPS matters;Development of plans, policies and statements relating to the service and ensure clarity of purpose across the team;Ensure the service works with partners and other stakeholders and seeks to influence developments where appropriate;Embed a culture of performance management across the service through the development and operation of appropriate monitoring systems and processes focussed on customer outcomes and delivery of key objectives;Lead in the development and implementation of service improvement projects and initiatives for the benefit of the Pension Fund employers and members;Act as the co-ordinator for all issues relating to issues raised by the Pensions Ombudsman and any complaints relating to the Pension Fund.COMMUNICATIONS:Ensure effective engagement with employers and members of the Pension Fund using a range of media in order to make complex matters as comprehensive as possible;Prepare reports for senior managers, employers and Pension Fund Committee on appropriate issues and as relevant;Produce the NYPF communications strategy;PARTNERSHIP / CORPORATE WORKINGCreate effective working relationships with a range of employers across the NYPF to aid the smooth running of the pensions function;Work with other employers to improve service effectiveness;Represent NYPF at meetings with external organisations and other stakeholders as appropriate;Ensure effective engagement and consultation with other interested parties, unions, Pension Board, employers, councillors, members, the public etc to understand and respond appropriately to customer needs;Ensure effective liaison with pension’s investment staff and the NYPF’s actuary.voluntary sector to deliver public services.PERSON SPECIFICATION:

Specialist expertise in a discipline relevant to the ServiceKnowledge and understanding of methods and options for interpretation of complex data and statistics with an ability to identify key business issues, implications and opportunities to improve.Knowledge of project management processes and proven ability to deliver relevant projects within allocated budget and to timescaleDetailed knowledge of defined benefit pension schemes.Conversant with LGPS and associated pensions regulations and the HMRC pensions tax regime;An understanding of data protection and FOI issues for pension fundsExperience

Specialist experience in a discipline relevant to the ServiceSubstantial experience of partnership working with or within a local authority or large organisation.Proven experience of influencing public attitudes and behaviourProven experience of motivating and managing staff.Sound experience of commissioning and managing consultantsKnowledge and operational experience of working in partnership with community and/or voluntary sector to deliver public services.
