Employee Relations Manager
We have partnered with a market-leading FMCG business to look for an Employee Relations Manager to support several sites in North West London. The role will work with the HR Business Partners, line managers and Trade Unions to develop and deliver the employment relations strategy.
In this role, the candidate will be very hands-on with the ER case management for the business units supporting a large population. With a team beneath you, you will be working on day to day employee relations cases such as sickness, absence etc. all the way up to misconduct, tribunals and collective consultations. The role will be hands-on initially as the environment is currently fairly reactive and will evolve as the foundations are put in place to become more strategic and proactive. There will be a lot of coaching involved with the line managers and you will be at the forefront of creating an engaging culture across the business.
The desired approach to employee relations is to resolve any issues in an informal way through mediation etc and avoiding escalation to formal processes. The business has focus groups and various forums for the employees and this role can drive them to ensure that the culture throughout the sites is engaging and proactive. As this is a new role, you will build the team beneath you take an active role in succession planning and developing the people beneath you. Building strong working relationships with the business and the Unions is essential in this role.
The right candidate for the role will have fantastic UK employment law knowledge and extensive experience of working with Trade Unions. Ideally you will have worked in a similar organisation that has a high caseload, is fast paced and involved difficult conversations with a variety of people. Knowledge of UK employment legislation is essential as you will take accountability for updating management on changes in this area. You will have experience of preparing for and attending tribunals, though there is legal support for this. My client will look at candidates who either specialise in employee relations or are a generalist that is looking to make the switch, having worked extensively on employee relations.
