Software Engineer - Automotive
Main Purpose of the Role:
To develop, release, deliver and validate the software and system integration for a range of automotive electro-mechanical assemblies with software content including column modules, steering wheel switches, roof modules, master lighting switches, HVAC control units, centre console switch assemblies, gear levers, infotainment control devices, keys etc.
1. Concept Design
a. Customer functionality and system / architecture limitations.
b. Ensure the style / concept aligns to the functional requirements.
2. Specification Generation
a. Software Design Specification.
b. Functional specification and functional safety management.
3. Final Design & Release
a. Ensure functionality is confirmed with regard the final design.
b. Prototype testing confirmation.
c. Functional specification and functional management sign off.
4. Project Management
a. Multiple supplier management.
b. Manage all aspects of the feature functional requirements with all areas.
c. Manage supplier timing and costs to meet required delivery and targets.
d. Close all open concerns and issues.
5. Validation Plan Generation & Management
a. Validation plan to VW & Bentley specification requirements.
b. Manage validation activities and monitor performance.
c. Proactively close all validation issues with Bentley Quality.
d. Fully Sign off the feature.
6. Cross Functional Communication
a. Ensure functions and system integration are known and agreed across the business.
b. Ensure all areas have bought into and approved the functionality.
c. Ensure feature progression is working in conjunction with all areas of the business including, engineering, purchase, finance, manufacturing, project management & quality etc.
Responsibility for ensuring that local Health and Safety policies and procedures are followed in order to ensure own safety and the safety of others.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Understanding of electrical circuit diagrams, circuit design and system integration onto vehicles.
Knowledge and hand-on experience (ideally) of vehicle communications networks and diagnostic protocols(e.g. CAN, LIN, Flexray)
Knowledge and experience of latest vehicle electronic systems
Conversant with electronic hardware and software design processes
Familiarity with methods for specification and modeling such as Matlab Simulink, Stateflow would be an advantage
Use of diagnostic tools such as IDEX, CANoe and ODIS would be an advantage.
Ideally but not essential, experience in the development of software for switch assemblies. For example;
o Centre console switches.
o Gear Levers
o Master lighting switches
o Column Modules (wiper / lights)
o Steering wheel switches
o HVAC control units.
o Roof modules
o System and component definition.
o Experience with functional safety (FUSI).
