Product Delivery Director - Start-up / Agile

Oscar Technology have been appointed by a Nottingham-based technology start-up to help them secure a Product Delivery Director. This is a brand new position, accountable to the founding CTO and working closely with the Executive Board, with a remit to take on a small technical team of 5 developers and grow this to 20+ inside of 12-months and up to 50 people inside of 2-years.

The company

Our clients business has been created by a separation of a software business from hardware provider. They are financial-backed by a very successful technology entrepreneur that has previously built and sold an IT-business for in excess of $250m around the time of the Millennium dotcom boom.

They develop software that works in tandem with wearable technology devices, and monitors human behaviours in the workplace. The current tech-stack is built around the .NET architecture (C#, MVC, Azure, Xamarin, MongoDB, SQL) and already count several Fortune 500 companies as clients.

The role

The Product Delivery Director will have license to recruit, manage and evolve their technology delivery function to around 50 people over a 2 year programme of investment. The aim is to build several teams around a Agile Scrum delivery model, each aligned to their technology products and eventually mature towards a Continuous Deployment / SaaS delivery model.

The position will play a key role in helping define product plans & roadmaps, planning delivery and managing all aspects of the release lifecycle. As this is an early-stage appointment, the position is expected to be more hands-on in project delivery, but as the team grows, the position should evolve into owning the overall delivery across their products

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee the delivery of technical requirements as advised by the CTO & the business
  • Assist in defining product plans and technology roadmaps.
  • Oversee the creation of the Product Delivery function, based around an Agile-delivery model
  • Experience of building & leading cross-functional teams of 20-50+ people
  • Managing budgets (OpEx & CapEx)
  • Owning the version control & releases, knowledge of Jenkins, Github require
  • Strong end-to-end release management knowledge
  • Manage features and dependencies in and across releases
  • Project Delivery
  • Familiar with integration of proprietary and open-source software platforms
  • Ensure that client, sales product development requests are filtered and fed into the product roadmap correctly
  • Collect, curate and promote the most relevant ideas into features
  • Assist with R & D team
  • Driving a culture of Continuous Improvement
  • Customer liaison and 'hand holding'
  • Establishing use of collaboration tools such as TFS, JIRA, Trello, etc

Essential requirements

  • Previous experience of building & leading technology delivery functions within a tech-business
  • Experience of collaborating with executives & the business on product roadmaps
  • Strong understanding of the SDLC, coupled with SOLID principles
  • Good understanding of the technology landscape across software development & data
  • Strong Agile-delivery experience including scaling & maturing Agile practices across a number of technology teams
  • A track record of building & coaching cross-functional technical teams
  • Experience of establishing & managing end-to-end release management practices
  • Excellent stakeholder management & client relationship skills
  • Previous experience of managing large budgets
