Lead Systems Engineer X 4


Job Description

The EW Vehicle Lead Engineer is required to support various projects ensuring that delivered systems meet customer and design requirements for function, performance and qualification in all its aspects. The position will involve working closely with and leading engineering teams, suppliers and customers to specify, document, and manage system and subsystem requirements and designs throughout the entire project lifecycle.

These positions can be either Southampton or Basildon Based.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Lead EW equipment installation design and development activities within military vehicles.
  • Work with multiple stakeholders to finalise vehicle design, and preparation for production.
  • Translate high level project and product specifications into system requirements and work with multi-discipline engineering teams to develop lower level detailed requirements.
  • Responsible for requirements change management, coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, and understand technical and cost impacts.

Ensure that the integrated designs meet:

  • Legislative validation and certification
  • Functional safety and sign-off for production
  • Transversal requirements, including shock / vibration in a land environment
  • EMC and Information Assurance requirements

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required

The following skills and experience are required:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in an engineering or engineering related discipline.
  • Equipment and systems integration within military vehicles.
  • Experience of specification development, verification and validation.
  • Knowledge of RF systems (e.g. RADHAZ, interference, grounding etc.), including Defence Electronic Warfare (EW) or Radar/Communication systems, techniques and products.
  • Understanding and experience of the application of transversal engineering disciplines (Environmental & EMC Qualification, Safety, Security, Human Factors, ARM, ILS).
  • Experience in UK MOD or other defence related areas. Holding, or be capable of attaining, UK SC security clearance.

The following skills and experience are preferred:

  • Experience of delivering EW Systems Engineering activities on multiple applications/projects.
  • Record of successful design, implementation and integration of any of the following:
  • Radar and Communication detection systems;
  • High Power Transmission systems, such as radars, communication or Jamming;
  • Integrated multi-location systems and mission control
  • Communications systems, including radio and satellite.

Intrinsic Factors

This is an office-based role using display screen equipment, working full time hours which can often be in a demanding environment, with occasional travel throughout the UK and abroad.
