Teaching Assistant

A special needs school in East London is requiring a teaching assistant to work with children in a KS2/KS3 class. The right candidate for the role must have previous experience working with children with the following needs; Autism (ASD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). The school believes in learning together with their pupils to develop the skill, knowledge and attributes they need as young adults. The staff would like to welcome someone who has a friendly disposition and a pro-active manner, who also thrives working within a team.

Knowledge of Picture Exchange Communication Systems (PECS) and P Levels is highly desired but not essential. This role begins in September 2018 and will be a full-time, Monday to Friday.

This Teaching Assistant role would be perfect for an individual who is:

***Are you someone with experience of working with children with ASD in a mainstream or special needs school?

***Do you have experience working particularly with children working at P levels/low cognitive ability?

***Do you have knowledge of TEEACH strategies and speech and language interventions?

***Are you an empathetic and sincere individual?

***Do you have good knowledge of Barking and Dagenham?

The Teaching Assistant Position:

  • You must be able to plan your own activities be able to deliver these without much support
  • Working 1:1 with a child with either ASD/PMLD/SLD
  • Writing reports on the child's attainment
  • Be able to build confidence in the child both socially and academically
  • Empathetic with parents and understanding their situation
  • Using your learned skills through your course in a real life situation
  • Be able to travel to Dagenham
  • Daily pay rate £75-£85 (dependent on experience)
