A new Oxford based diagnostics technology spin-out is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to undertake the design of mechanical components and assemblies including plastic components for disposable microfluidic cartridges and instrumentation hardware and sub-assemblies. The mechanical design engineer will join a spin-out which was recently set up by a major Electronics company to exploit their successful microfluidics 'lab-on-a-chip' technology. The company has solid financial backing and huge interest from industry for a technology which will revolutionise the medical and healthcare sector.

Responsibilities of Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
* Leading mechanical engineering activities within the company
* Development and design of plastic components and assembly methods for microfluidic cartridges
* Development and design of mechanical components for instrumentation to control microfluidic cartridges
* Ensuring the quality of the mechanical aspects of the company's products
* Liaising with customers on mechanical engineering topics
* Liaising with external manufacturing partners and suppliers
* Project management within the engineering team

Requirements of Senior Mechanical Engineer
* Minimum 2:1 (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from a leading university
* Significant industry experience including a minimum of 5 years' experience in managing mechanical engineering projects including:
o managing external manufacturing partners
o managing external suppliers/consultants
o customer communication and management
* Experience in design for manufacture of plastic parts
* Capability to operate and manage CAD software and systems
* Experience in working within a quality management system

* Masters or PhD degree in mechanical engineering
* Knowledge of microfluidic techniques and technologies
* Experience employing and managing engineering contractors
* Experience of product development for medical devices or in-vitro diagnostic devices
* Experience of leading a team of multidisciplinary engineers developing products including mechanical, optical and electronic components

Location: Oxford (commutable from Reading, High Wycombe, Aylesbury, Swindon, Banbury)
Salary: £40k - £50k + Startup package
