Assistant Engineering Manager / Depot Garage Workshop / PSV HGV / Derbyshire

We currently have an exciting opportunity for the position of Assistant Engineering Manager in Derbyshire to join a busy and recognisable Public Transport provider.

We are looking for candidates who can bring new ideas and ways of working to help the team achieve its objectives. It is also important candidates have the initiative and drive to make things happen.

You will report to the Engineering Manager with the day to day responsibility for running the Engineering facilities in accordance with the Company's policies and standards in order to deliver a consistently reliable, safe, high quality and punctual service in line with specified targets, contractual obligations and commercial objectives.

The main responsibilities of the position are:

- To control engineering resources within your garage
- To ensure sufficient vehicles, to the required standard of reliability, presentation and condition.
- To oversee planned and unplanned maintenance and deal with technical problems, personnel, negotiations, stock control and budget interpretation.
- To motivate your team therefore leadership qualities will be critical. Lead Engineering resource to drive performance from the engineering function
- Effectively manage engineering and maintenance budget Initiate projects and investigate opportunities to reduce spend
- Develop and drive HSE procedures
- Ensure legislative compliance and adherence to company Policies.

Skills and expertise required:

- Excellent understanding of the road passenger transport sector, including all relevant legal and external regulations and requirements for the operation of passenger carrying vehicles.
- Excellent working knowledge of all daily site procedures, engineering processes, health and safety regulations, VOSA standards, and people management practices.
- Have a passion to lead by example while motivating teams to achieve high standards of performance.
- Flexible approach to working hours - able to attend out-of-hours where required to meet service delivery and vehicle audits, and to be able to respond quickly to any 'on-call' requirements.
- Have a duty of care for the health and safety of yourself and your colleagues at all times, including a duty to report unsafe acts or omissions to safety. You should always follow all safety instructions in respect of how you undertake your role within the Business.
- Ability to work with Operations and Engineering colleagues in a collaborative manner.
- Experience of developing, leading and motivating staff to produce high quality work.
- Membership of a recognised professional engineering body is desirable.
