Job Title – Field Service Engineer

Location – Covering the South West of England

Salary - £30,000 to £35,000 plus overtime (Saturday x1.5 / Sunday x2.0)

The Company

Our client specialise in the sale and servicing of production machinery for the Window & Glass Industries across the UK. Their client base is wide and varied, dealing with both small privately owned manufacturers right up to massive multi-million pound national companies with fully automated production facilities.

They not only provide service and maintenance capabilities to their customers, but can also assist with strip down and installations of new equipment, as well as machine and line moves. They also have the capability of providing complete refurbishment to older machines and lines.

The business have been consistently growing over the last few years, adding £2 million to their turnover in the last year, with a target of growing by a similar amount in 2017. As part of this continued growth and expanded customer base, the business need to increase the number of Field Service Engineers to help meet current workloads. Their Engineers are based all across the UK to give national coverage, but work on local patches to ensure a quick breakdown response for their customers.

The Role

As the Field Service Engineer you would be required to perform two functions within the service team. The first is to perform routine, planned maintenance on customer’s equipment; the second is to react to breakdowns. Equipment includes two and three axis CNC lathes and milling machines, along with saws and cutting equipment.

Routine planned service calls out will account for 50% of all client visits. These service calls are booked months in advance with the customers to give both Engineers and their clients clear visibility of when the lines will be down for Maintenance work.

The remaining time will be split between breakdowns and installation work. When on breakdown call outs the Field Service Engineer will need access the cause of the breakdown through fault finding logically through each part of the system. Breakdowns could be either Electrical or Mechanical in nature.

Installation projects can take up to 2 weeks at a time depending on the size and complexity of the order, during which time the Field Service Engineer may need to stay away close to site in local accommodation.

The Candidate

To be successful in your application you must have the following skills or attributes:

  • Must have previous experience working as a Maintenance or Service Engineer on Manufacturing Production Equipment.
  • Must have a recognised electrical or mechanical engineering qualification.
  • Must be truly multiskilled.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Must be willing to stay away when required.
  • Must be based in the West Midlands and be willing to commute nationally if required.

Our client are keen to speak to anyone who has experience working on any special purpose manufacturing machinery (e.g. – CNCs, Presses, Mixing & Processing Equipment, Food Manufacturing, Plastics, Industrial Printing, Heavy Plant, Heavy Industry or Mining).

The successful candidate will receive full product training before commencing their time in the Field, so as they are completely familiar the range of machines and products they would find on customer’s sites.

The vast majority of the time the role will be based in the South West of England. However, installation projects could be based anywhere in the UK and can take up to 2 weeks, so candidates must be prepared to stay away during these projects for the duration which occur two to three times a year.
