Lead Systems Engineer


Job Description

The Lead Systems Engineer will provide technical expertise within the Land and Naval domain of Leonardo with a focus on (but not limited to) Electro-Optic systems for land, air and naval platforms. The successful candidate must have significant experience in all aspects of the Systems Engineering lifecycle and be able to coordinate existing knowledge and data on current programmes as well as providing technical support to develop concepts, architectures and define system designs - taking these forward to implementation, integration, test and evaluationand ultimately production.

The successful candidate would be leading Systems Engineering activity upon projects associated with both internally funded products as well as products directly deliverable to key customers within short timescales. The successful candidate would be joining a dedicated team with a full and stretching workload.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • All Systems Engineering aspects of new and existing programmes, leading work at all phases of the development lifecycle.
  • Development of Systems Engineering Development Plans.
  • Technical leadership and development of Systems Engineering teams. Supporting the development of current and future Systems architectures/designs (including Systems of Systems) and their implementation.
  • Robust capture and review of design artefacts as appropriate for all stages in the engineering lifecycle appropriate for managing existing systems and for taking concepts through to production.

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required

  • Extensive experience of the Systems Engineering lifecycle, from development and management of requirements (preferably using DOORS) through to acceptance testing.
  • Experience leading Systems Engineering activity upon Bids & Proposals (knowledge of military and international specifications and standards is highly desirable).Awareness of Functional analysis and Specification development is highly desirable.
  • Natural ability to work with other disciplines and external suppliers/customers.Experience of performing analysis and developing models using tools such as MATLAB.
  • Experience using Model Driven methods would be advantageous.
  • Conducting, analysing and reporting of qualification testing to support design certification.
  • Mentoring and coaching of others.

Intrinsic Factors

Occasional driving/travel may be required within the UK, Europe or even worldwide.

This role would generally be office/lab based with use of DSE equipment.
