This role would suit a caring graduate who has earned at least a 2:2 in their degree and previous experience supporting children. You will have the "get up and go" required to ensure that each and every day you provide exemplary support for the class teachers. Ideally, the school need a graduate who is able to demonstrate their commitment to the pastoral side of their role within school. You will provide an enthusiasm for what education offers and a natural affinity for SEN education. You will have a passion for SEN in Early Years Education. Full training will be provided throughout the year but any prior experience or use of Makaton/PECS would be very well received.
About the Role:
As an Early Years Autism Assistant at this school you will be supporting Early Years and KS1 within a specialist ASC provision within the primary school. The provision has a large selection of teaching resources including sensory rooms and outdoor learning space, vital to this area of education. Not only will you gain a wealth of experience here, but you will also learn how to be an effective class practitioner as you work alongside the involved Senior Leadership Team and ASC Lead. Your duties will include supporting in the small classes of 8 pupils and assisting on a 1:1 basis also. Part of your role will include nappy changing and personal care due to the young age of the children in your care and the high level of need. You will work with your pupils both inside and outside of the classroom to boost their academic and personal skills, reporting progress to the ASC Lead and Class Teacher. Play based and creative learning is key to the success of this provision so be prepared to roll your sleeves up and get messy!
