Web Developer / Front End Developer

We are working with an amazing new business based in London, W10 and they are taking the academic publishing world by storm. Their aim is to make publishing fairer. Their services enable universities and societies to run their own journals and presses at a fraction of the normal cost. They are doing this by using new technologies and workflows to provide the best services. To accomplish this they are developing their own manuscript submission and peer view system.

They are now looking for an excellent Web Developer / Front End Developer to come on board and work closely with the UX and Back End Dev teams to translate wireframes / prototypes into actual code.

The Web Developer / Front End Developer will need to have solid experience of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap and jQuery. You will be working with Yarn and Gulp build tools to compile front end assets structuring the project and building reusable code and libraries. Enhance the application for max speed, scalability and accessibility. The Web Developer / Front End Developer will have experience with structuring projects with JavaScript frameworks.

The Web Developer / Front End Developer must have:

  • 5+ years building highly modular and scalable Front End;
  • In depth knowledge of jQuery, JavaScript, HTML5, Sass/CSS3;
  • Experienced in using JavaScript based framework;
  • Responsive design (Bootstrap 3/4) and cross browser development experience 2;
  • Understanding of best practices in web front end architecture, and able to structure JavaScript code using classes (ES6 recommended);
  • SVG JavaScript libraries;
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g. WCAG);
  • Experience of source code management (Git);
  • Experience of working in collaboration with a UI/UX designer;
  • Excellent communication, organisation and time management skills;
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating past experiences and deliverables;
  • Progressive web application knowledge;
  • Good knowledge of PHP (Symfony);
  • Good knowledge of SEO practices;
  • Experience of working in an agile/scrum development environment.
