The appointment is full time and will be on UCL Grade 3. The salary range will be £19,050 - £20,447 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

The Department of Medical Physics and Bioengineering wishes to recruit an Apprentice Technician. The main role will be to provide technical support for the teaching laboratory being set up for our new biomedical engineering undergraduate degree course. Support will also be provided for the department’s wider operations as required. This could involve work in other laboratories and teaching spaces, including large scale projects that have specific deadlines.
The post will involve undertaking a suitable apprenticeship programme with the aim of becoming a fully qualified technician. This will provide career development and eventual expansion of the role.
The post will appeal to those with an interest in engineering in general and biomedical engineering in particular. You will be working in a world-class research and teaching environment. The post holder will be closely supported throughout the apprenticeship period, although a proactive and enthusiastic approach to the training programme will be expected as well.

The candidate must have an aptitude for practical engineering work, with good problem solving skills. They must be able to work with students in groups or individually and have good communication skills, enabling them to demonstrate how to use tools and equipment properly and safely. They should be self-motivated with the ability to work to deadlines with minimal or no supervision. The ability to convey technical matters to non-technical personnel is essential, as is the ability to demonstrate excellent attention to detail. They must possess a willingness to develop new skills as required.
