The Role
Our client, a leading international energy company is currently seeking to recruit a Senior Bid Manager. This is a crucial role in building a successful, sustainable bid management service with specialisms in energy construction services. Our client have a strong conversion rate for bids, and this role must build on this success, whilst increasing the volume of bids but still ensuring that robust bid governance and risk mitigation processes are followed for all opportunities.

The Senior Bid Manager will lead the delivery of first class tenders which showcase and demonstrate our client’s ability to meet the needs of a wide range of customers operating within the public and private sectors.

The Senior Bid Manager will be responsible for the quality of the submission delivered through a team of bid professionals and will need to work closely with Business Development and other key stakeholders, to ensure the Bid Team is effectively managed. The role requires an innovative and experienced person who can manage a team and drive improvements to deliver bespoke high quality responses that will exceed the customer’s expectations. They will manage the tender process from inception, solution development, client presentations, competitive dialogues, bid submissions through to mobilisation.

Candidate Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be required to manage and resource the bid team so that the business can achieve its pipeline targets. In addition they will have the following accountabilities:
• Driving and improving the standards of bid submissions in order to keep a high win rate in a highly competitive market.
• Ensuring the bid team provides a service to the business so that the business objectives will be achieved.
• Regular liaison with all appropriate businesses and their teams to ensure the bid service remains focussed and targeted on the needs of the customer.
• Ensuring bids that the business has signed on to are resourced and managed to deliver exemplary customer proposals.
• Ensuring all bids and proposals meet the required standards prior to submission
• Continually improving bid process so that bids remain of the highest standard without burdening other business resource.
• Managing specific opportunities (including writing, editing, design and layout) and managing the input from business development, operations, legal, commercial and the customer to deliver the best solution.
• Being a solution auditor with sufficient technical understanding to be able to sense check the proposal.
• Leading and providing direction for bid team members on their allocated opportunities.
• Provide the business with a library of standard collateral to support sales.
• Ensuring all submissions comply with corporate approval procedures to maintain the reputation of our client with its customers and mitigate any risks to the business.
• Development of appropriate reporting and management information system so that bid activity can be managed in line with pipeline and for the analysis of conversion rates.
• Post submission review and appraisals of all bid activity ensuring that key learning points are identified and implemented into the bid management process.

Candidate Requirements
Candidates must have extensive experience of complex bids and sales, with a track record of success in the public and private sectors. In addition they must have the following skills:
• Highly numerate, literate and articulate, capable of presenting a professional and confident image of self and employer alike
• Good commercial acumen is a must as they need to understand and be able to challenge the viability of proposals
• Experience in energy services, construction or facilities management
• Experience with both tendered opportunities and proposal development
• Project management experience / qualification
• Quality management experience desirable
• Excellent project management, presentation and interpersonal skills
• Proven ability to lead a diverse, multi-disciplinary team from several organisations on tight timelines
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Track record of successful tender submissions
• Bid writing / commercial skills
• Focused on delivery of activities within tight deadlines
• Highly commercial
• Experience of dealing with third party suppliers
• Detailed understanding of public sector and private sector clients and their requirements
