An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Careers Advisor to join an expanding company on a part-time, freelance basis. They are seeking an innovative, enthusiastic and dynamic Careers Professional to work on a self-employed basis at locations around Surrey on behalf of their customer. They are a creative, media and education company whose mission is to add context to the curriculum and inspire young people about the world of work, offering reality-based insights into the local and national employer market via innovative online products and bespoke guidance services. You will be a self-employed contractor representing the company. You would be responsible for payment of tax and national insurance contributions.

The principal role is to provide county-wide careers advice for young people identified as Looked After Children, in the Key Stage 4 and post-16 cohort. You would be based at schools and community locations pre-arranged by their school customer. The position is to work a total of 39 days within the academic year 2017-18, commencing September 2017. This will equate to 1 day per week over 39 weeks.

You would provide one-to-one careers advice advice around progression opportunities and longer-term career planning for Looked After Children. You will help each young person with online exploration of careers and local opportunities. The role is focused on ensuring that young people are excited about their future. All activities are geared towards helping them to make realistic choices about education, training and work. The careers adviser will raise aspirations and challenge stereotypes relating to career and education opportunities, ensuring equality of access to opportunities for all learners.

You will preferably have a qualification in careers advice and guidance at Level 6 or higher, or NVQ 4 Advice and Guidance, or equivalent, as a minimum requirement. You will need your own transport and be available to work in a range of locations across the county. You will need experience of providing careers advice for young people in an educational setting, preferably experience of working with looked after children or young people presenting multiple support needs. You will need excellent communication and listening skills, empathy, and the ability to build a rapport with young people, taking a non-judgmental and ethical approach. You will have the ability to motivate and inspire young people, with experience of using online tools to help young people to explore opportunities. You will be able to demonstrate initiative and be innovative in your approach to the guidance role. The company is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all employees and contracted staff to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS clearance.
