An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Digital Engineer to help deliver £165m of water and waste water projects in the North West of England. Contracts cover the Blackburn Batch, Medlock Quality Programme Batch (MQP) in East Manchester, Nantwich Waste water Treatment Works (WwTW), Crewe WwTW, and the Water Framework Directive (WFD) projects, with all of the awards building on AMP6 framework relationship with United Utilities (UU).

The Digital Engineer will report to the Lead Digital Engineer on the project and will be responsible for updating federated models, BIM Coordination, producing 4d planning, train / mentor project staff to make full use of the tools. In turn you will be working for the industry leader in BIM with excellent promotional opportunities.

Project - £165m of Water and Waste Water Schemes from Client United Utilities

In 2018 £165m of water works have been successful been awarded in addition to the existing AMP6 framework the new works include:

• Blackburn Batch, a contract which will take Darwen WwTW out of service, provide storm storage and divert flows to Blackburn WwTW. It also includes the build of a new works at Blackburn, with a total order value in the order of £100m.
• Providing New ‘Nereda’ technology at the Blackburn plant and at Failsworth in the MQP (Medlock Quality Programme). Nereda is a new treatment technology designed to minimise plant footprints and reduce running costs, whilst meeting ever more stringent effluent quality requirements.
• The MQP Batch focuses on improving river water quality and involves five different locations in the catchment area which extend out several miles. All of the MQP locations involve work related to "storm water storage" as well as the new Failsworth plant.

Digital Engineer Role Scope
• A Digital Engineer provides support to the Digital Engineering (BIM) Function in the delivery of Digital Engineering objectives across bids and live projects, taking responsibility for significant aspects of a bid/project DE strategy and its consistent implementation in line with industry best practice. To contribute to the continuous improvement of our capability and capacity through proactive feedback.

Purpose of Post
• To support and contribute towards the development of their Digital Engineering capability, related to the project delivery phase, in line with industry best practice and emerging innovation and technology.
• To manage the implementation of Digital Engineering by applying appropriate resource, process and protocols during pre-construction, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance.
• To support in the development of their staff to deliver Digital Engineering in line with their discipline specific responsibilities.
• To support the Lead for Post Win Digital Engineering across business as usual and developing Digital Engineering Implementation Strategies, from Work Winning through to Project Delivery.
• To support the Lead for Post Win Digital Engineering maintain collaborative working relationships with key Design Partners and ensure alignment across BIM Strategies.

Main Account-abilities
• Actively plans and contributes to the implementation of Digital Engineering on projects by supporting the application of DE resource, skills, process, protocols and tasks at bid, pre-construction, construction, commissioning, handover, operation and maintenance stages.
• Participates in the development of staff to deliver Digital Engineering in line with their discipline specific responsibilities.
• Supports the Digital Engineering lead in delivering DE to projects in accordance with our scope of services as set out in the Digital Engineering Deliverables Menu.
• Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders, both internal and external, to deliver DE/BIM Strategies.
• Actively contributes towards and promotes best practice and the development of the Digital Engineering service offering.
• Develop and encourage direct reports through constructive feedback and mentoring to ensure consistency in delivery.
• Work and promote compliance with Digital Engineering procedures and processes and contribute toward further development.
• Support and mentor direct reports in their learning and development.
• To understand and implement the project specific Digital Engineering (BIM) requirements as informed by the client and stakeholders. Where necessary, support the Digital Engineering lead when working closely with the Project/Bid Leader to define and identify requirements.
• To report upon BIM implementation and delivery on projects under the individual’s responsibility.
• To report upon functional engagement on projects under the individual’s responsibility.
• To evaluate reporting and present appropriate recommendations to the Lead for Post Win BIM.
• To contribute to the development of the Building Information Modelling Key Performance Indicators in line with business-critical reporting requirements.
• Accountable for the clear communication of the process, protocol and training required to support the implementation of Digital Engineering, on bids and projects under individual’s responsibility


• HNC/ HND or equivalent



Digital Engineer

• Competent / Advanced understanding of Autodesk Revit and Navisworks
• Have experience working on infrastructure projects – ideally water / waste water project
• Competent with Level 2 – PAS1192 suite and the UK BIM strategy
• Relevant practical experience within a consultancy of contractor either as BIM Coordinator, BIM/CAD Technician or Engineer
