Durham Constabulary are looking for an IT Engineer (Communications) to join their team based in Durham.

Job Title: IT Engineer (Communications)

Location: Force HQ, Aykley Heads, Durham

Salary: Senior Officer 1 - £28,713 - £31,365

Hours: Full-time, Permanent - 37 hours per week, based on working 9am – 5pm, Monday to Friday. (As a member of a professional team you will be subject to call out and will be expected to work outside these hours occasionally. The flexible working hours’ scheme applies to this post).

IT Engineer (Communications) - The Job:

Durham Constabulary is looking for an IT Comms Engineer with experience of Avaya PBX/IP Telephone systems to work within the ICT team at Durham Constabulary. Particular experience of supporting Avaya CS1000E, AvayaAura CC6 and emerging Unified Communications systems would be advantageous. This role will be part of a wider Network/Comms team so experience of LTE/Tetra Radio would be desirable but not essential.

This IT Engineer (Communications) role will be key to the delivery of Telephone and Radio Communications to both the community of County Durham and Darlington and the operational staff within Durham Constabulary.

Applicants must possess a full, current driving licence or have access to a means of mobility support as the role involves extensive travel to various meetings across the force.

IT Engineer (Communications) - Main Duties and Responsibilities:

- To maintain and configure telephones systems, including all associated ancillaries

- To maintain, configure, install and repair radio terminal equipment both handheld and mobile

- To maintain, configure, install and repair audio visual equipment, including CCTV and digital audio recorders.

- To support the ICT Service Desk to resolve calls/issues and liaise with other ICT staff to support departmental objectives

- Prepare equipment specifications, tenders or evaluations as requested by Senior Management.

- To monitor the performance of telephone and radio network systems, keep up to date records of ICT assets and produced reports where required

- Create documentation, diagrams and other detailed instructions to help other employees make the best use of new technologies.

- Liaise with users and suppliers and attend appropriate training where required.

- Take part in the ICT 24 x 7 On Call Rota when required

The Successful IT Engineer (Communications) Candidate Should Have:

- Higher National Certificate (HNC) in IT / Telecommunications

- Minimum of 3 years working in a telecommunications and or radio communications field

- At least 3 months previous administrative experience – producing reports/technical procedures and design documents

- Understanding of IP Telephony

- Understanding of LTE/Tetra Radio Systems

- Enhanced numerical skills e.g. performing complex calculations.

- Enhanced literacy skills e.g. composing original letters and memos or short reports on a regular basis.

- Enhanced computer/keyboard skills e.g. inputting onto spreadsheets, database systems etc., where accuracy is essential but speed is not a key demand.
